Ministry of Infrastructure Development & Federal Transport Authority announce dates for Middle East Rail 2017 edition

Under the patronage and in presence of H.E. Dr. Abdulla Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Infrastructure Development and Chairman of the Federal Transport Authority, Federal Transport Authority (FTA) and Terrapinn signed an MOU to jointly hold Middle East Rail, the region’s longest running and most successful railways event, for three more consecutive years.

The 11th edition of Middle East Rail, the most influential railway event in the region, will take place on March 7 & 8, 2017 at Dubai World Trade Centre. Extending its project focus to new regions in the MENA region as well as Central Asia and Indian Subcontinent, the event will host over 350 exhibitors occupying more than 22,500 square meters of space. Confirmed keynotes speakers include: Sir Peter Hendy, Chairman, Network Rail, UK, Asset Assavbayev, Chairman of Transport Committee, Ministry of Investments & Development, Kazakhstan,  H.E. Mahmood Baligh, Minister, Ministry of Public Works, Afghanistan, Khaled el Din, Vice Chairman for Freight Transport, Egyptian National Railways, Egypt and Parag Khanna, World-leading author and expert on the ‘one belt, one road’ plan’, Connectography, Singapore.

The memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed by H.E. Dr. Abdulla S. Al Katheeri, Director General, Federal Transport Authority – Land & Maritime, UAE and David Beguely, Managing Director, Terrapinn. It states cooperation between FTA and Terrapinn on organizing the international railway exhibition, which has been the catalyst for innovation in freight and passenger travel across the Middle East and is set to position the UAE as a global leader in the railway and transport industry sector.

Commenting on this occasion, H.E. Dr. Abdulla Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Infrastructure Development and Chairman of the Federal Transport Authority, said: “We see Middle East Rail 2017 as a golden opportunity to spot light on top government and private sectors companies involved in the sector through an international conference. This project is in line with the objectives of the Federal Transport Authority (FTA) to boost local economy and place the UAE as a logistics hub in the region. We also aim to develop a more sustainable shipping and travel railway network in the region.”

H.E. Dr. Abdulla S. Al Katheeri, Director General, Federal Transport Authority – Land & Maritime, UAE, also said: “This collaboration on hosting Middle East Rail 2017 is another way of supporting the government’s vision for the development of the transportation sector in the country as well as applying the FTA’s strategy to raise the efficiency and sustainability standards of land transportation. We have set strict federal regulations that are based on international practices for a safer and comprehensive infrastructure that supports transportation locally and regionally.”
