Abraj Kudai is planned to be the most enormous hotel in Saudi Arabia

A luxurious hotel planned to be opened in Mecca aims for a new record in the history of an architecture. It plans to gain the status of the most enormous hotel by the quantity of its suite rooms. Abraj Kudai, the name of the new hotel, will have 10, 000 rooms.

This gigantic dwelling will focus on functionality for the clients. “With a total site area of approximately 60, 000 m2 and total built-up area of around 1.4 million m2, the project is a residential and commercial complex that consists of a large podium topped by 12 towers accommodating several elements such as a podium housing a bus station, a shopping mall, restaurants and food courts, a convention center and car parks”, said architects Dar Al-Handasah on its website.

The construction works are expected to be completed by 2017, but the residents are already sharing complaints regarding the vague destiny of the city’s holy heritage, that Mecca’s pilgrims have to face. Irfan Al –Alawi, who works at Islamic Heritage Research Foundation, had this to say: “Everything has been swept away to make way for the incessant march of luxury hotels, which are destroying the sanctity of the place and pricing normal pilgrims out”, reported The Guardian.

Therefore, while planning another rich and opulent hotel to fulfill economical ambitions, the issue about the heritage of holy sites needs to be taken into a serious consideration.
